Oct. 16, 2019 – Continuing in its commitment to recruit and equip great educators and address the national teacher shortage, Duval County Public Schools is launching Jumpstart 2.0, an intensive, paid teacher internship program.
The six-week internship is designed for individuals who have a desire to teach and a statement of eligibility from the Florida Department of Education.
Once accepted into one of the 40 internship slots, the teacher interns will receive four weeks of training from district teacher development specialists, followed by two weeks of shadowing a master teacher.
“We are committed to creating pathways leading to great teachers, because our children deserve it,” said Laura Bowes, executive director of human resources with Duval County Public Schools. “Jumpstart 2.0 serves among one of our many initiatives – including the Ready, Set, Teach program and the S.T.A.R.T. program – to recruit and develop outstanding educators.”
Eligible candidates have until Nov. 1 to apply to be a part of the first cohort, which will run from Nov. 4 – Dec. 20. Participants will be paid as a part-time teacher at a rate of $26 an hour for 25 hours a week. After successful completion of the program, the participants will be assigned to a full-time teaching position in January.
