March 18, 2020– Duval county high school students have the opportunity to snag some free internet hotspots to help get their school work done.
The district launched the Free Hotspots for High School Students program this school year. This program provides free high-speed internet access to qualifying high school students who do not currently have reliable Internet access at home.
A hotspot is a device or location that lets people connect to the internet through a mobile network.
With the district-provided hotspot, students will receive 10GB of free high-speed wireless data each month for up to four years while the child is a registered Duval County Public Schools student. The district can not track or monitor students’ activity while using the Wi-fi hotspot.
“The Free Hotspots for High School students program is just one of many measures we have to increase student’s access to technology. As we move toward a remote-learning environment, it’s more important than ever that we can assist our students in attaining access to technology so they can be academically successful, said Dr. Diana Greene, Superintendent.”
High school students can apply for the hotspots through their district “OneView” account.
Parents will also need to create their own “OneView” account to approve their child to have a hotspot. After students apply for the hotspot, the device is approved rather quickly pending parental approval.
