July 19, 2022 – For long-time ESE teacher Elizabeth Cunningham, the benefits are undeniable.
“It’s rewarding because what you do is you see growth,” she says. “And that’s what we want, is to continue the growth that they’ve had during the regular school year.”
The Mandarin Oaks Elementary School educator is referring to the Extended School Year, or ESY, Program. The free program supports students with disabilities and is a continuation of the school year.
“It is so valuable, an extension to what they already know,” says Cunningham. “It continues that growth that they have learned so that they will not forget anything when they come back in August.”
The Team Duval News Team recently spent time in Cunningham’s classroom as students participated in a variety of academic and enriching activities. Watch the video to get a glimpse at what students are learning, and why Cunningham says parents are grateful.
