Jan. 16, 2024 – After reviewing feedback from parents and staff, Duval County Public Schools has revised the schedule for the last week of school.
The last week of school – May 28 through 31 – is now regular, full days. Previous to the change, they were special early release days.
The change was based on recommendations from the district’s calendar committee, which is comprised of stakeholder groups such as parents, teachers, the teacher union, administrators, district leaders, and community partners. Some of the concerns included the challenges some parents experienced with getting childcare. There were also concerns about low attendance on those early release days and the limited time for instruction.
The updated schedule was approved by the school board during its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 8. This update can be seen on the revised school calendars for 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Note that this change is not related to the school closure on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
