April 28, 2020 – There have been many questions about how student grades, attendance, graduation requirements, and grade-level promotions are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
For example, the Florida Department of Education cancelled state assessments for the school year due to the pandemic. How does this impact final grades for students?
For answers to that and other questions, please review the updated 2019-20 Student Progression Plan (SPP). The SPP essentially describes how students are promoted from one grade level to the next.
The updated plan — which was approved by the School Board at its monthly meeting on Monday, April 27 — is written in an FAQ format. You will find answers to questions such as:
- How will student grades be earned while participating in Duval HomeRoom?
Answer – There is no change in how grades will be earned. Teachers are utilizing Duval HomeRoom and appropriate blended-learning platforms to provide instruction aligned to grade-level standards and following the curriculum guides created for the 2019-2020 school year. - How will report cards, progress reports, scholarship warnings, non-diploma agreements and other important documents be communicated to parents/guardians?
Answer – Report cards and progress reports will be distributed through Focus accounts for students and parents. - How does the cancellation of state assessments impact graduation requirements for current seniors?
Answer – With state assessments canceled, the only graduating requirements for current seniors are: Pass all required credits for Program of Study AND earn at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).
