Feb. 16, 2022 – On Tuesday, the district informed parents of children enrolled in DVIA Homeroom that the program is scheduled to conclude at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
DVIA Homeroom — created this school year — is a special program offered through the district’s Duval Virtual Instruction Academy that provides synchronous online learning instruction. The decision to conclude the program is related to the changing COVID-19 landscape. Below is the communication provided to families.
Note – Traditional, asynchronous online instruction remains available through the Duval Virtual Instruction Academy.

Dear DVIA HomeRoom families,
The COVID-19 circumstances in our area have changed significantly from the original shift to online instruction in 2020 through this school year. One aspect of that change has been the development of and wide access to vaccines for both adults and students. Because of this, the district plans to conclude the special, synchronous learning program offered through Duval Virtual Instruction Academy (DVIA) at the end of this school year. Your child is enrolled in this program, which is often referred to as DVIA HomeRoom.
Choice season is open
We are informing you of this decision now so that you have time to consider the many school choice options our district offers. The deadline to apply for a magnet school or school other than your zoned school is Feb. 28. If you do not enroll in a choice school, your child will automatically be re-enrolled in their assigned boundary-zone school based on your home address.
Asynchronous DVIA is still an option
If you want your child to continue in an online learning format, we will continue to offer the normal, asynchronous model of DVIA. Asynchronous courses are monitored and guided by a teacher, but the teacher is not teaching live on the computer through a normal school-day schedule. Student work is self-directed and can occur at any time of the day. There is limited remote adult supervision of students in this format, and a high level of motivation and commitment is required for students to succeed. If you feel this online format is a good choice for your student, the application period for this program runs from April 4 to July 29.
