Sept. 30, 2024 – This week, the district will continue its meetings – known as school consolidation impact review meeting – with school communities regarding the proposal for six school mergers in the 2025-26 school year.
The meetings began last week with the scheduling of consolidation meetings for the proposed mergers of Annie R. Morgan into Biltmore Elementary and Kings Trail into Beauclerc Elementary. A meeting scheduled to discuss the proposed merger of Kings Trail into Beauclerc Elementary last Thursday was postponed to Oct. 3 due to Hurricane Helene.
This week, the meetings are regarding the proposal for Don Brewer to merge into Merrill Road, and Susie E. Tolbert to merge into S.P. Livingston.
While not final, these proposals are part of the district’s larger plan to right-size schools to increase resources for students while lowering overhead cost.
The consolidation meeting for Don Brewer’s possible transition into Merrill Road will be held Monday, Sept. 30 at Don Brewer Elementary School and will start at 5:30 p.m.
The consolidation meeting for Susie E. Tolbert’s possible transition into S.P. Livingston will be held Thursday, Oct. 3 at Susie E. Tolbert Elementary School and will start at 5 p.m.
Stakeholders representing Don Brewer, Merrill Road, Susie E. Tolbert, and S.P. Livingston will discuss the transition of students to the combined campuses. As mentioned previously, this process enables stakeholders to represent their communities to discuss academic programs, program continuity, uniforms, and more. Recommendations from the groups will be presented to the superintendent for review.
What families need to know:
- Students attending Merrill Road and S.P. Livingston will not be affected by this change.
- Students attending Don Brewer and Susie E. Tolbert are proposed to attend their new schools starting in August 2025, if approved.
- All four schools will operate as normal during the 2024-25 school year.
